Biography

Group Chief Executive

Naoko Vaudrey joined Montlior in 2004 as a business correspondent on the Coravian Courier, covering shipping and industrial policy. She became the paper’s business editor in 2009 and its editor in 2012.

She moved into management in 2017 as Chief Executive of Montlior News, and was appointed Group Chief Executive and an executive director in 2019. She is the first Group Chief Executive to have come from the newsroom rather than the commercial side.

Her tenure has been defined by the subscription transition, which took digital from 24 per cent of Group revenue in 2019 to 62 per cent in 2025 — achieved without closing a title or withdrawing from a market. She also commissioned the archive digitisation programme completed in 2026.

Under the Charter she has no authority to direct or review editorial content before publication, a limit she has described publicly as the most useful constraint of the job.
