Independent Non-Executive Director
Elena Rivas is a career editor who has run newsrooms in three countries, including eight years as editor of a national daily and four as executive editor of an investigative non-profit.
She was appointed to the Montlior Board in 2018 on the adoption of the Editorial Independence Charter, and has chaired the committee established to enforce it since its first meeting.
The committee received nine reports in 2025. Seven were resolved as unfounded or procedural; two are described in the Annual Report, without naming complainants, at her insistence and over the objection of external counsel.
She has no executive role at Montlior and does not sit on the board of any Montlior title, so that complaints about any masthead can reach her without conflict.
